The world of cybersecurity is evolving almost every day.

And for that reason, it is crucial for you to know about the changes that are coming into play. So, to make your knowledge regarding the topic more enriched, we are going to discuss a few things that you didn’t know before. Let’s get started with it, then.

1: Mails Aren’t As Innocent As You Think They Are.

As per a recent report, almost 94% of malware is usually deployed and directed through the mail and everything else related to it. So, make sure not to open any mail that looks too enticing to you – like you’ve won USD 50 million or something like that. Using a firewall can help too!

2: Identity Thefts Are Becoming Common.

Recently, this issue happened to Sandra Bullock, who was being portrayed by someone else on the internet. However, the worrying thing is that she’s not the only one who has encountered it first-hand. Almost 28% of people in the USA have been a victim of identity theft as of now.

3: Weak Passwords Are a Gateway to Your System.

According to a report, almost 83% of people in America use a weak password, especially on a crucial platform or account. The most popular one amongst them is their pet’s name. A few people use the name of their father or mother as their password too. It’s really bad, TBH.

4: Financial Information Getting Leaked is Quite Prevalent.

Almost one person in five tends to lose their financial information to a hack due to a breach of data. The data that has been leaked due to the same may include – debit or credit card info, the account number of their bank, and the routing information.

5: It’s Important to Read the Privacy Policy.

Do you usually read the privacy policy of a website before accepting their request to access a piece of your personal data? No, right? Well, you are not the only one. According to a survey, almost nine percent of Americans don’t consider doing so too. And trust us, it’s risky as heck!

6: The First Hacking Incident Dates Back to 1903.

In the year of 1903, Guglielmo Marconi came up with a press conference to show off his new invention – the wireless telegraph. It was supposed to be fast, efficient, and secure. But, during his presentation, it suddenly started writing out ‘Rats’ on paper.

It was later revealed that the system was hacked by Nevil Maskelyne, who was a rival inventor and a magician. This was the first time when someone hacked a ‘secure’ system to highlight a flaw or two within the main security system. And it was quite an event too!

    7: It’s a Male-Oriented/Dominated Sector.

The world of security has a lot going on in it. However, according to a report made in 2017, it is considered as a male-dominated sector, with almost 89% of men working in it. However, it’s not because the women are less-competent, though.

It’s mainly due to a massive pay gap between men and women as well as the lack of a future in this career. Discrimination is also a part of the segment in a lot of countries.

    The Final Say!

The world of cybersecurity and cybercrime is quite complicated, yes. However, it’s also pretty interesting if you see it from our viewpoint. Anyway, we hope you’ve found this article to be helpful for your purpose. But if there’s anything else you want to talk about, comment below.
